After months of research, I decided to get the Opel Touchflip 4G! I've now had it for about a week and I want to share my experience here and list the pros/cons etc as I found it difficult to find information about it before I bought it!...

✻ why I decided to do this ✻

• increase motivation + mental energy
• allow myself to be bored so i can get my creativity back
• reach my screen time goal of less than 1hr per day
• be more present in general
• flip phone looks cool

✻ why I chose this phone specifically ✻

For my situation, I wanted to find a phone that looks good, is useable in Australia, I can still use WhatsApp on, listen to music on, be able to google things if it's important - but really more of an inconvenience to use the internet & social media.

Originally, I wanted to get nostalgic with it and get a LG KS360- my very first mobile phone that came out in July of 2008, just in time for my 10th birthday! :3

✩ As nice as it sounds in theory to have my childhood phone now, I have doubts about it being doable.. I needed a phone that won't make me rely on a smartphone to do things!... I know there is no "perfect dumbphone" as everyone's needs are unique & there is no phone tailored to my specific needs- so with finding the right one it's either "customize or comprimise"

After browsing r/dumbphones, it seemed like my best bet was to get the Opel Touchflip 4G. Unfortunately it's only available in Australia so far, but I'm hoping there will be more & more decent dumphones popping up in the coming years as it seems like a lot of people are returning to basics, and creating the demand.

Here are some Pros & Cons of this phone *imo* (so far):

pros:

• you can use whatsapp!
• you are able to add things like maps & spotify using a third party launcher
• you can video call people !!! which is wild on this phone
• the 5mp camera is kinda epic
• battery life good
• it's plain & simple
• can insert a microSD card up to 24gb i believe

cons:

• i still haven't been able to install maps or spotify on it yet as it seems like a whole process (more of a skill issue tho)
• quite difficult to punctuate your texts
• not many accessories available for this phone
• ugly design- but i covered mine in rhinestones and now it's pretty
